This DC Gear engine has an optical rotary quadrature encoder built in. Quadrature encoders have two out-of-phase pulses to detect the direction of rotation of the shaft. As a result, the DC Geared Encoder engine has both the advantages of position sensing and the direction sensing of the rotating shaft.
